About
Design a sample chip and packaging that embodies both a performance and biomaterial narrative to be the first impression to brand partners and potential customers. 
Background
Checkerspot® is a biomaterials company focused on developing high-performance fats and oils that aren’t easily or sustainably sourced from nature, using precision fermentation to bring innovative solutions to market.  Developers of the first publicly accessible, bio-based polyurethane plastic, their materials have been featured in consumer-facing sporting equipment, skincare, and cooking oils.
StudyHow can we make a lasting first impression with a single object? We targeted material performance, company ethos, and manufacturing capabilities as design priorities with this sample chip and packaging.
StrategyWe chose a reaction diffusion pattern to tell the story of a company focused on commercially viable, bio-based innovation. This pattern created a juicy visual dialogue, but also allowed us to show off the molding qualities of Checkerspot’s Algal-based polyurethane.
