Project summary
We developed paper pulp packaging material using recycled paper fiber and Macro Ocean’s seaweed biomass waste, a byproduct of their nutrient extraction process. Encorporating this waste into an existing manufacturing process opened up the possibilities in both single-use packaging and value-add for waste.
Background
Macro Oceans transforms 100% traceable seaweed into innovative biomaterials – brilliantly designed for beauty, food and beyond.
StudyThere is a waste biomass after the nutrient extraction process of kelp, which has potential for a high-value add to the seaweed industry. Simultaneously, there is space for more sustainable material in consumer packaging for cosmetics. Can we marry both objectives?
